Wall Found Wednesday Night in Roanoke
The body of 18 year old Roanoke Rapids textile worker Joseph Daniel Wall was found near Jackson Landing after disappearing in the Roanoke River Friday night. Coroner Dennis Hitchen announced the inquest will be held Monday at 3 0. Funeral services are set for this afternoon at 4 30 from New Hope Church on the Littleton Highway. Burial at Cedarwood Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Thelma Wall, a son, his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Halifax To Get Roanoke Farms Site From WAA
Congressman John Ho Kee announced the War Assets Administration was completing plans to turn the Roanoke Farms site near Halifax over to Halifax County. The 2.6 acre tract once housed Farm Administration offices and is one mile south on U S Highway 801. County officials and Judge Kerr pursued the transfer for use in the County Health Program with WAA confirming the documents were being effected and transfer to be completed without delay.

City Told To Establish Legal Recreation Body
Dr Harold D Meyer urged Roanoke Rapids to create a legal recreation program funded by a dedicated body with power to act. He proposed options including a town fund appropriation or a local option tax, possibly up to 10 cents per hundred dollars, and noted an automatic election if not called by officials. A 2 year plan could use about 15000 annually, with 12,000 residents paying roughly 1.82 each.

Symphony To Give Two Concerts Here Tonight
North Carolina Symphony will perform under Oh Dy Benjamin Swalin at the high school auditorium Monday May 17 with two concerts.
