Airman Neal Rescued After Mountain Plane Crash
Lt Frank B Neal from Roanoke Rapids tells parents of his missing May 1 flight with British instructor Kerr. After parachuting into Mexican mountains, Neal survived days in isolation until rescue Thursday May 6 near a village in Mexico. He and Kerr were found alive, planed to Douglas Army Base amid celebrations. Neal plans June 23 visit and family reunion with brothers William and Webb in the army.

Rainé Wilson Commissioned First Lieutenant at Camp Pickett
Rainé Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Wilson of 738 Roanoke Avenue, was commissioned a first lieutenant at Camp Pickett Virginia. He previously served in the 105th Medical Regiment after Fort Jackson. Scout Camporee Near City Anticipates 175 Attendees
Local Boy Scout officials predict about 175 scouts will gather at the new District Wilderness Camp on Whetstone Creek in Northampton County for the Halifax District Camporee. The three day program starts Friday with events in first aid signaling map making and other skills. Troops from Littleton Jackson Conway Murfreesboro and others attend. Devotional services close the event Sunday morning May 7 with Don Tillar as activities chairman assisted by Clyde Liske and Howard Pruden.

Cremation of Claud Newsom After Car Fire Tragedy
Claud K Newsom 26 son of Tom W Newsom of Belmont died in an accidental fire. His body found beneath a burned car in the garage after a Sunday blaze. A coroner's inquest ruled accidental death by fire. Funeral held at the Cemetery with Rev Lester A Tilley officiating. Survived by f ather two brothers Major C Bobbie Whit Newsom two sisters Mrs Virginia Speight and Mrs Ella Salmon. Mother died 1942. Born in Warren County near Littleton. Served in U S Marines. Discharged last fall and returned home.

Ernest Stallings was re elected mayor of Enfield Monday over William Mann by a vote of 274 to 113. Four town commissioners were elected: R. E. Shervette Sr Eli Bellamy Bud Marshall and Frank Vaughan. Winners take office yesterday for a two year term.
