Commissioner of Enfield Is Buried in May Day Service
Raymond Lucas Wood aged 48 died after a few hours illness in Rocky Mount hospital Tuesday. Funeral services were held at his home Wednesday at four o’clock conducted by Rev. B. D. Critcher. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Carrie Sherrod, three sons Raymond Sherrod and Matt Wood, mother Mrs Lula Wood, sister Mrs Watson Sherrod, brothers May and Eugene Wood, all of Enfield.

N E Sears aged 66 died at his Enfield home Wednesday morning and funeral services led by Rev Hudson were held at Branch Funeral Home Thursday at 3 p m. Interment followed in the local cemetery. He is survived by his wife, son Ernest Sears of Enfield, and two brothers J G Sears and P R Sears, both of Enfield.

A 17 year old girl from Roanoke Rapids, blind since birth, returned home after cataract removal surgery in Richmond. Doctors operated on one eye with highly satisfactory results and expect further procedures on the other eye within weeks under the Lions Club

Negro Man Powell Arrested On Hit and Run Charge
Herbert Powell of Gaston section was arrested after a Saturday collision involving a parked car in front of 1201 Hamilton Street. An eye witness provided the license number, leading to Powell’s apprehension. a Mayor's Court hearing is set for Monday.

Eddie Cox Injured In Auto Accident
Eddie Cox an employee of Patterson Mills Company is in Roanoke Rapids Hospital with injuries from an auto accident Saturday afternoon April 27. He received a head injury but is not in a very serious condition. The crash occurred on Thelma road when the car backed into a barn. Full details were not learned.
