Polish Relief Forum to feature Count Potocki in Roanoke Rapids
Final plans for a May 9 Public Forum at the high school auditorium spotlight Count Jerzy Potocki ambassador to the United States from Poland under Nazi invasion. Dr. B F Brown of State College will join him as co speaker sponsored by local Lions Kiwanis and Woman's Clubs to raise funds for Polish refugees aided by the Polish government in Angers France. The event aims to aid widows orphans the sick homeless and hungry with all ticket proceeds plus minor expenses going to relief efforts. Potocki will outline Europe's crisis and offer peace ideas while Brown discusses prewar and post war economic conditions and the coming European order. The visit marks a historic occasion as the first royal rank official visit to Roanoke Rapids and Halifax County since colonial days.<|vq_15663|>

In Memoriam Fred Powell April 1939
In loving memory of my dear brother Fred Thomas Powell who passed away one year ago April 11 1939. Peacefully sleep on dear brother though on earth you are no more. In memory you are with me as you always were. The stars shine bright upon the silent grave and in it lies the precious one I loved but could not save. Sister Fannie.
