Governor Broughton to Speak at Scout Camporee Apr 17
Governor J M Broughton will address the Eastern Carolina Scout Camporee opening day in the city April 17. He will lead a parade of Eagle Scouts and officials after a 4 30 p m talk to the Scouts, with about 2000 expected. The three day event runs April 17 18 19 and includes ceremonies at the Armory Hamilton Street Roanoke Avenue and the camp site.

Kiwanis Club Wins 1941 Achievement Award Again
The Kiwanis Club was named winner of the 1941 achievement report contest in the Blue division for clubs 25 to 50 members. The award will be announced at the Carolinas District meeting in September. Frank Sherry is president, W. P. Medlin vice president, Rev. Lawrence Stell secretary, Heath Lee treasurer.

Roanoke Rapids Boxer Wins 30th Infantry Lightweight Title
Richard Collins of Roanoke Rapids receives a trophy at Fort Jackson for winning the lightweight championship of the 30th Infantry Division on March 13. A former amateur and Golden Gloves fighter, Collins joined the Army eighteen months ago with Company B of the local National Guard and now serves as First Sergeant in Company C, 105th Medical Battalion. He earned a commendation from Major General Henry D. Russell for training new recruits.

Tragic Pedestrian Deaths In Roanoke Rapids Area
One 11 year old Negro girl died after being struck on highway 47 in Gaston by Charlie Clements of Roanoke Rapids. Clements bonds and later release were set while awaiting a manslaughter hearing. Two Roanoke Rapids women were injured when hit by John Arthur Narron’s car on Weldon Roanoke Rapids road. both had leg injuries though not seriously hurt.
