Tornado Strikes Sunbury Gates County Causes Damage
A freak tornado hit Sunbury in Gates County around 3 30 this morning causing substantial property damage with three minor injuries. Scott Benton former Sunbury resident and Roanoke Rapids lawyer was alerted there. no family injuries reported. A cotton gin saw mill Episcopal church garages and sheds were damaged while a trailer was destroyed and a Black firefighter suffered extensive injuries at the mill. The storm lasted about two minutes leaving debris in its wake.

Friday night marks the final performance of Sawdust and Spangles the ninth Kiwanis circus revue at the High School auditorium.
