Memorial Cup Debate Set for Halifax County Teams
Triangle debates will be held in Chapel Hill on February 24 with Roanoke Rapids and War then Jackson Square and Seaboard forming northern Halifax County teams for the final contest. R Kin, secretary of the Debate Union, says 225 high school delegates from 90 counties will compete on the question: That the shop should prevail in industry. Preliminary debates occur in March with finals mid April and dates to be announced. An Interscholastic Track Meet and Tennis Tournament share the same day as the finals.

Cemetery Association Forming Fund Drive for Extra Cemetery Land
An important meeting of Cedarwood Cemetery Association was held Wednesday night March 2 at Masonic Hall. The group discussed securing funds to buy additional land for cemetery purposes and decided to send solicitors to appeal to individual citizens for contributions, supplementing donations from organizations and corporations. Names of solicitors to be published in the Herald next week. Citizens urged to consider the cause, long neglected.

Three excellent numbers headline the Roanoke Rapids Lyceum, opening Saturday night March 12 in the school auditorium with Clifford Foote Trio as the first act. The Montague Co. flight opera follows on March 29 featuring parts of operas including the Mikado. The New York Glee Club closes the trio on April 22, billed as one of the road’s top Lyceum attractions. Season tickets priced at 1.50 reflect concessions and non profit aims as the group aims to cover roughly 400 dollars in costs.
