Roanoke Rapids Abrogates Paying Contract
The Roanoke Rapids Board of Commissioners canceled the paying contract with W. B. Moore for paving replacement after the contractor failed to begin work on time. The original contract from June 29, 1916, planned completion by November 20, 1916, but paving finished June 1, 1917, with hundreds of yards of defective work. City Engineer ordered immediate replacement, estimated to take three to four weeks, causing about $1,500 in loss to the town due to interest and delays.

Death of Mr John T Munford in Roanoke Rapids
Mr John T Munford died at Roanoke Rapids Hospital last Wednesday night at age sixty nine after a period of asthma. A Rosemary resident for years, he was known for upright conduct and sterling qualities and left a wife with four children Annie and Sallie Munford of Rosemary Tom Munford of Sedley Virginia and Jim Munford of Petersburg Virginia. The body was taken to Franklin Virginia for interment in the family burying ground.
