Roanoke youth drowns in Roanoke River Sunday
Morris Thomas, 19, drowned Sunday afternoon while swimming with friends in the Roanoke River near Roanoke Rapids. Divers recovered the body on the Northampton Halifax boundary after his companions could not reach him. Coroner's inquest deemed unnecessary due to accident and river jurisdiction. He will be buried in Northampton County beside family. Survived by six sisters. Funeral held at sister’s home with burial in Northamton.
