A. W. Dowtin known as Toady, accused of selling cigars without a license from Roanoke Pharmacy stock, arranged cheap boxes from Baltimore. He undercut rivals at 10 and 15 cents, prompting magistrate J. K. Dickens to set a $500 bond, with jail in Halifax if unpaid.
Dr and Mrs Job Taylor entertained more than two hundred friends on Friday night June eighteen at a well appointed reception. The grounds were lit with colored electric lights, the punch bowl was served by Mrs Bass, and many out of town guests attended from Emporia Weldon Lillit on Halifax Enfield Scotland Neck and Rocky Mount.
Rosemary hosts many visitors this week as S. M. Crouch and colleagues drill the local lodge staff. Durham to Greensboro to Norfolk figures attend. The University of North Carolina Summer School expects the largest crowd yet, with 400 teachers turned away for lack of room and classes starting June 24. All Saints Episcopal Roanoke Avenue lists Holy Communion at 7 30 AM and divine services at 11 and 8 with church school and Adults Bible Class at 9 45 led by T W Mullen. Tuesday June 29 marks St Peter's Day with OA M Holy Communion. The church extends a welcome.
