Roanoke Rapids Theatre to Close for Remodeling

The Peoples Theatre in Roanoke Rapids will close on June 1 for a two month remodel costing about 518000. A new white concrete front and neon marquee will be added, interior redecorating done, and an air conditioning system installed to 90000 cubic feet per minute. The Imperial will run two day bills during the Peoples closure, reopening mid August as a modernized venue.

About 2 000 people attend Roanoke High School 1938 commencement as 71 seniors receive diplomas. Dr Clyde Milner delivers the address at eight o'clock with music by the school band. Awards include Kiwanis Medal to George Hayes and Lions Club Trophy to M C Newsom Jr and Mildred Lee Moore.

Roanoke Rapids Welcomes New First Christian Pastor

Arri arrives today to begin work as pastor at the First Christian Church in Roanoke Rapids. The church invites members and friends to hear the new pastor on Sunday and attend a reception Friday night June 3 from 7 30 to 10 in the church basement honoring Rev B Eugene Taylor arriving that Friday afternoon. Music and light refreshments are planned.
