Miss Irene Reed aged about sixteen, an employee at a Roanoke Mills Weaver room, fell into a wheel of a water cooling apparatus last Wednesday afternoon. She suffered a broken jaw, a deep forehead wound, and minor bruises, but skirts prevented a worse fate. she is reported to be recovering at Roanoke Rapids Hospital.
The Orphan Concert Class from the Odd Fellows Orphanage in Goldsboro will perform at Central School Auditorium tonight instead of People's Theatre. The play Kentucky Belle replaces the usual concert and is praised highly. Attendance supports a worthy cause.
The Rosemary Manufacturing Company hosted its first yard and garden contest for villagers. Garden prizes awarded to W. H. Shaw, B. W. Beale, K. E. W. Baggett, E. L. Clark, with honorable mentions R. W. George, A. L. Grooms, J. J. Banty, J. M. Hodges, John Killebrew. Yard prizes awarded to D. G. Holloman, Chas. Parks, Henry Lee, S. J. Evans, honorable mentions A. A. Reed and William Bowers. committees named for gardens and yards.
Wade C Smith of New York City will be at the Presbyterian Church Sunday. He will preach at morning and evening services, lecture with stereopticon slides in the evening, and address the Christian Endeavor Society at seven. All local youth and visitors are welcome.

Building operations in the county approach half a million dollars with major projects underway. A new high school at about 300000, S F Patterson plans a Roanoke Avenue home near 125000, First Christian Church begins a Roanoke Avenue church costing thirty to forty thousand, and other residences on Washington and Jackson streets rise toward completion. The Herald offices are undergoing remodelling estimated at ten to twelve thousand dollars.
A Park program titled Fun and Music proved successful last night as music by the band entertained attendees. Contests included boys eating watermelon with hands behind backs and a pie eating event, followed by a milk drinking contest with grown men using baby bottles, eliciting much laughter.

The Rosemary and Roanoke Rapids baseball teams have merged for the season. Smith of Scotland Neck will be the starting pitcher. Scheduled games include Norlina July 1, Polorimies of Norfolk August 7, and Kelford August 14. Officials anticipate excellent exhibitions of baseball.
Mrs Mattie Lee Revell beloved wife of G C Revell died at their home 520 Five Hundred Street Rosemary Tuesday afternoon at three o clock after a prolonged illness Funeral services were conducted by her pastor Rev A G Carter and interment was made in Northampton County near Sea fboard Wednesday afternoon
Rosemary beat Roanoke Rapids 2 to 1 in a tense contest on the local lot. Home runs by Moore and James sparked the game, while Dunham and Smithy pitched well for Rosemary as errors and timely hits decided the outcome before two hundred fans.
Little Margaret Dixon Taylor age one died last Monday in Virginia Beach after treatment at an infant sanitorium. Her remains were brought to Roanoke Rapids for burial after a short service at First Methodist Church by Rev. Eugene C Few. Floral tributes overwhelmed the grave as out of town mourners included Mrs Albert Redburn Monroe Mr and Mrs J J Lawrence Miss Nancy Lawrence Ayden and Mr H M Taylor Burlington.
