Woman Struck by Car Near Roanoke Rapids Friday Night
Mrs. Daisy Gunn was hit on the Lit tleton Highway about 11 o clock last Friday while returning from a daughter’s home. Driver H E Liles of Norfolk swerved but could not avoid a dark object in the road. Gunn was taken to Roanoke Rapids Hospital with injuries not believed serious. No blame assigned after police investigation.

Break in at Kidd’s Lunch lands two men in jail
Two men, Ben Lowder and Ben Barnes, were arrested by Officer Jenkins after a break-in at Kidd’s Lunch in uptown Roanoke Rapids. The entry occurred Monday night or Tuesday dawn. $5 in pennies and two cartons of cigarettes were reported missing.

Marine Captain Allen P. McNeill Jr. 29, returns to the Marine Corps Air Depot Miramar California for leave and reassignment after serving as communications officer with a First Marine Air Wing during the Philippines liberation campaign. He survived several Japanese bombings on Luzon without injury. Son of Mr and Mrs Allen P McNeill Sr of Norfolk he graduated Roanoke Rapids High School in 1935 and Guilford College. He joined the Marines in 1940 and was commissioned in 1942 and promoted in 1944. His brother George 18 is a Navy Seaman first class in the Pacific.
