California's Old Glory Flies 24 Hours A Day

A large American flag atop Mount Lover in Cloton California is one of the last three national flags allowed to fly 24 hours daily. Placed during World War I as a patriotic gesture, it flies around the clock for about 81 years except during storms, measuring about 15 by 25 feet and visible over 40 miles on clear days. Floodlights illuminate it at night and it is replaced every six weeks. The other two all-day flags are above the Capitol in Washington at the grave of Francis Scott Key and in Frederick Maryland, where the Star Spangled Banner is kept.
