Forestry Camp Cancelled Due to Polio Outbreak
W K Beichler informed the Hali fax County forest warden that the annual forestry camp for farm boys, scheduled August 23 to 27 at the Division of Forestry and Parks Single tary Lake Camp, has been cancelled because of a polio outbreak in the state. The camp had been sponsored for years by the Forestry division with Southern Pulpwood Conservation Association mills and the Sr ard Reiscad.

The Roanoke Post No. 34 of the American Legion in Scotland Neck installed new officers at a ladies night event. Mullen Lilley was named commander, Lyman Forbes vice commander, and Robert Marks second vice commander, with others to be appointed by the trio. Aurelian Springs Girl Harms in Truck Embankment Crash
Miriam Hux ten year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Bernard Hux suffered serious injuries when a truck rolled backward into an embankment. She had legs hanging over the tail gate and was pinned, both legs broken and one foot crushed. She was taken to a Rocky Mount hospital and was reported to be improving.

Former Halifax Irwin Weeks a former Halifax and Hertford County drivers license examiner faced Halifax Recorders Court and pleaded nolo contendere to five warrants alleging illegal issuance of licenses. Edwards Elected Vice President of North Carolina Sanitarian Group
Eugene S. Edwards Jr., road sanitarian for Halifax County, was elected vice president of theastern North Carolina sanitarians section at a Greenville meeting on Monday July 12. Biblical Pageant Postponed To August Cast And Rehearsals Continue
The V F W biblical drama The Light Eternal scheduled for tonight and tomorrow night is postponed until August to give the cast more time to rehearse. Sgt Dick Collins says a later production date will be announced. The full cast has been chosen with 22 singers from town churches forming the chorus under Mrs Paul T Overton directing and Miss Sara Elizabeth Pope as pianist. Twenty musical numbers will be performed with a large cast including Nary Yater AL Drew Willis Stevens Judy Juanita Jones Joseph Dick Britton and many others plus a long roster of chorus and supporting roles.

A tank unit gave a demonstration illustrating bazooka mortar and anti tank weapons.

Miss Weldon of 1948 will be crowned tomorrow night in Weldon at the second annual Weldon Junior Chamber of Commerce contest. Four George Residents In Auto Wreck Near Roanoke
Four George residents sustained injuries in two car wrecks near the Virginia mountains above Roanoke close to the West Virginia line. Buck Taylor rammed an oil tank after a sharp curve, narrowly avoiding a 1500 ft precipice, while Miss Rose Taylor and Mrs. Clarence Whitley suffered injuries in a second crash when a truck ahead halted suddenly.

Two Others Die In Roanoke Rapids Crash Night Fatality Third This Year
Halifax County records a third highway death this year after a head on collision on 10th street east near Roanoke Rapids. Eddie King 40 a former local taxi driver died from skull fractures while J A Johnston of High Point and his wife Mrs Johnston were injured. Johnston remains hospitalized with a fractured arm and facial injuries. Wallace escaped injury. The two cars a 1935 Ford Coach and a 1841 Ford Sedan were demolished. An inquest is planned for Friday. Funeral services for King were held Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church Roanoke Rapids Cemetery is the burial place. King survived by wife Lillian and children Richard and Judith.
