A powerful explosion occurred yesterday at Roanoke No 2 Mill bleach house at 6 10 pm. Dry cans exploded tearing a 13 inch brick wall and throwing machine parts across the area. Windows in the mill were cracked and shattered from the blast.

Funeral of Mrs. Cornelia E Shell Held in Roanoke Rapids
Hundreds attended the funeral of Mrs. Cornelia Edwards Shell pioneer citizen of Roanoke Rapids. She died yesterday at Roanoke Rapids Hospital of pneumonia at nearly 75. Her husband died in 1916 and her sons, L G Shell Curtis C Shell and R G Shell, are prominent in local business.
