George Daughtry leaves for Petersburg and many Roanoke Rapids residents are noted visiting relatives in Baltimore Norfolk Tarboro Danville Purdy and Purdy. The third Chautauqua rises to high standard with Garland Boltordan Company Il Trovatore and Lectures by Franks Dixon. preparations for 1918 contract underway and community supports Chautauqua as a permanent institution.
Edwin Flood of Petersburg visits his uncle J L Daughtry. Mr and Mrs Gray Carey of Parmele stay with Mr and Mrs W G Lynch. Mrs J A Moore visits her mother at Franklinton. Robert Smith pleads speeding and pays $2 and costs. Rev Francis M Osborne John Rook charged with drunk and disorderly in Charlotte pays $1 and costs. will preach at Saint Anthonys Episcopal Church. Barnes and Barnes discharged. evidence shows no highway robbery. Fred Peck returns from business trip to Chicago.
Mrs. Mary Smith of Faucetts Township died Saturday from age related illness and was buried at the Smith burying ground. She is survived by her husband and several children. William Midgette of Bath spent a few hours in town this week with friends. Miss Virginia Tillery is visiting in the home of Mr and Mrs Wells D Tillery.
W F Horner and George Taylor traveled to Norlina Wednesday night. Mr and Mrs J W House and Mrs W B Hale followed to Norlina Thursday to stay with Mrs G B Crews.

Norlina resident G B Crews Seaboard Railroad agent attempted suicide at 6 15 pm shooting himself in the mouth. He died on a train en route to St Lukes Hospital near Richmond Bracey 15 miles away. He leaves a wife and one child. Crews had been in Norlina about two months and was previously a Roanoke Junction agent. The town is in gloom over his untimely death.
