Mr M. Thompson, president of Roanoke Ice and Fuel Co, bought the Louisburg Ice Plant and will take control next Monday. The acquisition aims to relieve the acute Roanoke and Rosemary ice shortage by shipping two carloads weekly from Louisburg.
Mary Pey Stokes wed Herman P as Bristol Virginia and Bristol Tennessee relatives and friends attended a morning ceremony at Henry Stokes of tones home. The groom’s best man was Clyde Hickerson. maid of honor Mable Stokes. floral and ribbon bears from Blackstone. Reverend J. A. Thomas officiated with music by Anna DuPuy. The couple will reside in Rapids North Carolina after a wedding journey.
Presbyterian Church schedules show no services due to the pastor's absence. Wedding guests include Rev J B Thomas and Miss Vivian Thomas of Bristol Tennessee, Dr and Mrs F C Williams of Savannah Tennessee, and several Stokes and Harrisons from multiple Virginia towns, with Henry Stokes noted as a Blackstone banker.
A frightened horse pulling a wagon ran wild Wednesday noon past Taylor and Collier's store, striking Wells D. Tillery's wagon and Tucker Fayed's car, upsetting the wagon and narrowly missing parked cars and storefronts. A youth tried to taunt the horse but fled as it charged.
Rosemary Post Office was entered by thieves on Tuesday night. The safe was blown open with nitro glycerin and War Savings stamps, cash, and registered letters were stolen. Entry gained via a jimmy from a nearby garage and the thieves escaped in Bill Collins’s Ford. Post Mistress Medlin discovered the raid at 7:30 and alerted authorities.
Pastor Rev A G Carter leads Rosemary Baptist Church. Sunday School at 10 00 supervised by G 8 Gregg, Morning service at 11 00 with Christ the Chief Cornerstone theme, Evening service at 8 00. All Sunday School children urged to attend a 2 00 pm trip to Panacea Spring leaving church promptly. Refreshments at the Springs. Prayer meeting Wednesday at 8 00.
The Board of School Trustees Roanoke Rapids North Carolina invites bids to purchase bonds totaling 86000 issued to build and equip graded school buildings. Bonds 1000 each due October 1 1949 bearing interest not over 6 percent semiannual. Bids by August 1 1919 with 10 percent certified check. Right to reject bids reserved. Presented July 11 1919 by A Wyche Chairman and J L Patterson Secretary.

A new National Loan and Insurance Co formed in Roanoke Rapids and absorbed the National Agency Co with C A Wyche W L Long and J R Manning as incorporators. Frank Haris of Northampton jailed for selling monk ey rum at a dollar a drink. He posted $200 bond. George Thompson fined $2.50 for drunkenness after taking monk ey rum. W L Johnson fined for bicycle on sidewalks. Other autos and bicycle violations listed with small fines and costs.
A Peace Thanksgiving service replaced the usual pageant at Summer School in Chapel Hill. At eleven a processional of white-clad ladies, songs, and a reverent address opened the day. An orchestra played on the lawn at five before supper, and three U N C men spoke in the evening on war topics. The day carried a quiet, peaceful mood.
The Rosemary team defeated Henderson 8 to 4 with Dodson on the mound and Lam pus catching. Dodson struck out thirteen while Henderson’s pitcher fanned eleven Rosemary batters. Next Saturday Rosemary faces Macon again. Card of Thanks expresses gratitude for support after mother Cornelia E. Cawthorn’s death.
The Baraca Class of Roanoke Rapids Baptist Church hosted a welcome home event for about fifty five local soldiers with Brunswick stew and sandwiches. Rev. A L Moore of Clayton delivered the main address with talks by Revs. Lance and Carter and Mayor J T Chase.
In a fragmentary passage Jim Sweint weeps when Flora Fiyrte returns. He is described as downcast and walling in, while Joloth is noted as likely to gain freedom in a few years. If he had married Flora, he would have been tied to Lia Hew Coch Worle.
