Lions Stage Festival in Roanoke Rapids Aug 9 14
The Roanoke Rapids Lions Club announces its seventh annual Mid-Summer Festival the week of August 9 through 14 at Simmons Park. W. C. Kaus Shows returns with rides and a twin ferris wheel while proceeds aid the Lions blind and welfare fund. Committee members include Joe Talley Ed Knott and Basil Glover.

City workrooms for preparing surgical dressings run by the local Red Cross chapter are shut temporarily due to lack of gauze and other materials. The last shipment was lost or misrouted in freight, and once supplies arrive, workers and supervisors will be notified and the rooms reopen.

Tragic double killing ends in self destruction in Halifax
Clinton Elmore Ivey, 29, shot his wife Ellen Clary Ivey, 25, in a Halifax basement apartment at noon. He then wounded his father in law R. E. Clary, 51, before fleeing to Quanky Creek and killing himself with a toe fired shotgun.
