94 Year-Old Woman Dies in Richmond Convalescent Home
Mrs. Ann Morecock Russell died Monday morning at a Richmond convalescent home. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Weldon Methodist Church with Rev. D Cox L. Fouts officiating. Interment followed at Darwood Cemetery. Born January 12, 1851 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Edward and Mary Elizabeth Morecock and was said to be among the last people whose father fought in the War of 1812. She was a longtime Weldon Methodist and Mary Pierce Johnson Missionary Society member. Surviving relatives include great nieces.

Corp James Vinson Hueston of 117 inton Street has received an honorable discharge after 60 months of overseas service. He enlisted in September 1940 and served in the American and European Theaters, earning the American Defense Ribbon and the Good Conduct Ribbon. He spent three years in Panama, then served in England France Luxembourg Belgium and Germany.

Discharged Soldier Kelly L Bishop Honorable After War Service
Kelly L Bishop 22 son of Mrs Ruth Bishop 114 Bolling Road received an honorable discharge from the army effective June 22 with 119 points. He enlisted February 1941 trained at Fort Bragg served overseas from August 1942 returning last month participating in major European theaters including Africa Sicily Italy Southern France and Germany. Attached to Headquarters Battery Thirteenth Field Artillery Brigade he earned the Purple Heart Good Conduct Medal and African and European Theatre ribbons.

Accident May Cause Loss of Wray's Light
Mack Wray a Halifax Paper Company employee may lose his eyesight after a Wednesday morning accident. He contacted a 440 volt line switch, the arcing current knocked him to the floor and injured his eyes. He was taken to Roanoke Rapids Hospital and sent to Duke Hospital Durham for examination and treatment.

Billy Norwood made a hole in one on No. 11 at the Carolina Country Club in Raleigh using a No 2 iron on a 175 yard hole. He was in a foursome with Dr R P Beck Mayor Kelly Jenkins and Teddy DeLoach. It was his second ace, first coming three years ago. He quipped that he disliked “doing the boys” that way but said he was honest about calling his shot.

Visiting Parents James Hux on 30 Day Leave From Navy
BM2/c James L. Hux, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hux of 47 Madison Street, is on a 30 day leave visiting his parents. He trained at Bainbridge Maryland and Litt le Creek Virginia, then Fort Pierce Florida for amphibious operations. He served on USS LST 281 in the Normandy invasion June 6, 1944 and earned the European Theatre ribbon with three battle stars and two unit citations. After leave he will be stationed in Norfolk Virginia.

Cars Crash In Collision injures two people
Mrs Margaret Hux driving east on Seventh Street collided with Edward Crowder on Charlotte Street around 12 30 Sunday. Hux suffered back leg and head injuries, Crowder back injuries. Both were hospitalized and later released. Crowder charged with reckless driving and assault with a deadly weapon.

Mrs. Clinton DeBerry received the Purple Heart awarded posthumously to her husband Sergeant Clinton P. DeBerry who was killed in action in Germany on March 27. He served with General Patton’s Third Army 5th Division 11th Infantry.
