Roanoke Rapids weighs an $11 219 investment in a 750 gallon Triple Invader Pumper and La France truck plus gear. City commissioners seek backing from policy holders to cut insurance premiums by 10 to 15 thousand dollars yearly, with 20 to 30 percent savings on dwellings and business property once new equipment arrives in four months.
Robert Sims, a colored employee of Halifax Paper Corporation, died at Roanoke Rapids Hospital from injuries after a car overturned in upper Gaston Township. A friend riding with him escaped with minor injuries when the vehicle turned over and Sims became trapped beneath the wreck.
Election day for Halifax County asks voters to choose Support or Oppose the Control Act on liquor. Old registration books suffice, with voting sites set in South Ward store space and North Ward Warehouse.
