Notables include Mrs Ethredges improvement Mrs Parsons Richmond trip Rev White and several locals visiting relatives and friends in surrounding communities.
Rosemary residents recount a shocking act as church members pound the pastor and wife a severe pounding last Tuesday night. The group then left a note promising a substantial salary increase for the pastor. Two prior incidents in four months are noted and local food items are mentioned.
At a January 12 call of the Literary Society Jesse Lee Bailey, son of the new pastor, was elected president for 1920. The society staged a Weldon play January 8 raising 40.75 dollars. A school basketball team was organized with Louis Crawley Elsie Butts Essie Liles Lillian Carter Fula Glasgow and others as players.
The Aurelian Springs Group lists its member schools: Aurelian Springs Bear Swamp Hollister New Hope River Road Calvary Airlie Hawkins Chapel Weavers Chapel. The group plans monthly School Column contributions from member schools.
A series of November to January school and community activities are described. Fundraising by a box party and concert raised 123.87 dollars. The Dora Throne play supported Chapel Church. Christmas programs included songs, recitations, a suffrage debate, and caroling. The Old Hickory Society hosted a minstrel show. The community funded Aycock monument, planted a memorial tree for Robert Lee Alston, welcomed new teacher Miss Browning, and planned a new library. A basketball team formed and anticipates play dates.

Henderson farmer visiting Rich Unexday in town. H Davis of Washing ton guest of Miss Poulain and Mrs W G Kendrick. C Kendrick of New York City was in town Monday. Gay of Seaboard visiting his son in Bal t this week. Robb has gone to stock for his eating store to be opened soon.
Mrs Frank Thomas of Rosemary is charged with killing a five year old by a peculiar accident in Pit County on January 24. The child died after a chimney section fell on him while he played in the yard with his brother. another child was seriously hurt but expected to recover.
Cotton is described as a seed grown in rich soil. It sprouts two leaves within a week or two, forms limbs and branches in a month, then develops squares that lead to a bloom. The bloom is white the first day and red the next.
The North Carolina Health Board warns unvaccinated residents as smallpox cases rise statewide. No quarantine will be established. posters announce the danger to the unvaccinated. Vaccination is free and recommended for those not vaccinated in the last five years.
North Carolina should curb fires that average 633 yearly over 1909 to 1918, burning 415000 acres and costing 650000 with two deaths. Commissioner James R. Young urges citizens to avoid outdoor fires on windy days, not to fan flames, and to report careless or deliberate burning for prosecution.

Notable items: court notes clerk and registrar office in order. county home in poor condition. court adjourned to continue with civil docket.

Senator Overman notified Geo N Taylor that his appointment as Postmaster has been confirmed by the Senate. Taylor had served as acting postmaster since returning from overseas and is praised for faithful service.
The Mothers Club at Rosemary met at Mrs. Payne Beckwith's home on Wednesday afternoon January 21 at 3 30, about ten members present. Miss Lucille Carson read a paper on perfect development of a child's digestion breathing and conduct and a successful life. Topics included faulty position care of teeth outdoor exercise mind and morals and Lewter. The program was enjoyed by all. The club adjourned to meet with Mrs. H G Coleman in February.
Representatives from Halifax County Red Cross Chapters met January 2 at Weldon Graded School auditorium to discuss securing a Red Cross Nurse for county public health work. With some chapters absent no decision was made and the matter was postponed to January 28 when each chapter must send a voting representative.
