The Roanoke Rapids Schools will reopen Monday morning if weather permits. Superintendent C. W. Davis said school work was halted due to the heaviest snow in 13 years and rising illness. He urged students stay home until snow and walkways are cleared and attendance improves.
Herman Shearin is hospitalized in Chocke Rapids after a mill accident at Halifax Paper Company last Monday afternoon. His left arm was caught in a reel causing a broken arm and shoulder injury. He had recently been rehired by the Halifax Paper Company and was working at the mill when the incident occurred.
James Webb, a colored employee of the Halifax Paper Company in Roanoke Rapids, was injured when a trap ran over him last night. The leg was not broken but the injury is painful and the man is reported in stable condition at the plant.
