Funeral for George A Hearne
George A Hearne age 59 died Wednesday morning after months of illness. Funeral services were held at Chapel Hill Methodist Church and burial followed in Sparrows Cemetery. He was a former superintendent of Gore's Chapel Sunday School for fifteen years and was active in the Chapel Hill church. He is survived by his wife Eva Frances Sparrows, seven sisters, one brother, and several nieces and nephews.

Nurse Miss Stallings Leads State Cohort In Exams
Led by Mildred N. Stallings a Roanoke Rapids Hospital School of Nursing graduate scoring 95 on twelve subjects Miss Stallings topped more than three hundred nurses statewide in the State Nurses Examinations last November. She and eight peers from last spring passed and will receive licenses to practice immediately. Stallings now works at St Luke's Hospital in New Bern.

Community Chest Trustees Election Slated for Saturday
Voters will choose four Community Chest trustees with ballots printed in the Herald. Eligible voters include all 1939 contributors. ballots may be secured at industrial plants or Roanoke Rapids post office or mailed to P O Box 31. A meeting at the Municipal Building Monday at 7 30 will announce results and elect officers for 1940.

Automobile Fire at Belmont Destroys Interior of Car
Firefighters responded to Belmont where Murphry Tickle's car interior burned out as he charged the battery. Damages estimated at 200 dollars. Earlier alarms included a Cotton House No 5 blaze at Rosemary Manufacturing and a missed fire at the Teachers' Home after a phone report.
