Mra J A Loftin returned from a visit torel at Troy N C Lucy Butts of Garysburg Tuesday and Wednesday visiting Batton and now returns home after overseas service His discharge was at Camp.
A major fire destroyed Littleton College early Tuesday in Rosemary area. The blaze started in a dining area then swept a four story dormitory. nearly all students escaped with little personal belongings saved. Several local residents and staff reported losses while insurance coverage ranged around eight thousand dollars.

General Orders praise the 29th Division for skill endurance and courage in the Verdun front action. They advanced eight kilometers through trenches captured 2100 prisoners seven cannons and many machine guns. Commanders note rapid decisive fire overwhelmed German troops and praise officers and men.

In France on December 19, 1918 Captain Edgar H. Bain writes to Mrs. Andrews expressing sympathy for her loss. He confirms her husband, Robert, died in battle while serving at headquarters and praises her as a noble woman. He notes many in the company paid the price of freedom and offers ongoing support.
J M Mullen of Peters spent several days in town visiting his son T W Mullen and other relatives, staying at a local residence before returning home.

The Methodist Church announces Sunday services at 11:00 A M and 7 30 P M with Pastor Rev Begone C Faw delivering the sermons Morning and evening worship. A prayer meeting is scheduled Wednesday night at 7 20 o'clock before the Teachers Training Class session.
Rosemary Methodist Church at 720 Pum invites members to attend regular services at 7 80 PM. Prayer meeting and choir practice occur each Wednesday at 7 80 PM. A wedding of Riley Ellis with Lillie Saintsing was noted with marches and refreshments. The couple will reside in the village.
Roanoke Rapids organizes a twenty three member band mainly drawn from Roanoke Milly Company employees. Manager P Patterson helps organize, furnish instruments and instructor. R L Towe elected treasurer to handle finances. Arthur Whitely of Lumberton hired as instructor. Members practice three nights weekly and show progress.
Stanley Modra of 2192 Caton Avenue Brooklyn a YMCA secretary is honored by General Haller commander of the Polish army with the Croix de Guerre for bravery under fire. He served with the First division in the Vosges carrying supplies to frontline posts and aiding troops while under fire.
The Halefax Superior Court jury list for the next term includes Week One jurors such as W Wiggins J Lee Whitaker W M Warren M C Moore and many others. Week Two jurors include S A Burgess A E Bobbitt C B McGwigan J W Alsbrook and additional names.
Mr T M Jenkins purchased the interest of Mr T C Vaughan in Rosemary Supply Company and becomes sole owner. Since organization Jenkins has controlled affairs, no change in business conduct expected. The Boacks Rapids community forms the Roanoke Rapids Choral Club with Rev. Stanley White as conductor and Mrs. W. Hancock as president. Rehearsals are Fridays at the Presbyterian Sunday School Rooms, with alto, soprano, tenor, and bass members listed and associate membership open. The club aims to present concerts benefiting both members and the local community.

Mr. John W. House, long time secretary and manager of the Hancock House Company, sold his holdings and accepted the management of Northington Grocery Company, wholesale grocers of Roanoke Rapids. Expansion plans include growth under new leadership.
