Governor Seay wires NC State Director that 1918 War Savings pledges outstanding on January 1 1919 may be redeemed with 1919 stamps but 1919 stamps must be affixed to 1919 certificates only. About twelve million dollars in pledges remain unredeemed due to cotton and peanut price drops and stamp shortages. The Government urges early redemption in 1919 as costs remain high. Secretary Glass says the War is not over and the Treasury will continue commitments until discharged.

Trains Nos 19 and 20 to Resume Operation
Mayor J T Chase has been notified that trains nos 19 and 20 will be put back on. The sho fly train runs Weldon to Raleigh leaving Weldon early morning and returning about 9 pm. It enables residents to visit Raleigh and intermediate points and return the same day. Schedule mirrors the former one and will resume around the 20th of the month.

Abe Norinsky Gets Discharge From Camp Sevier
Private Abe M. Norinsky of the Medical Detachment Motor Transport Corp Camp Sevier received his discharge last Saturday and left for Roanoke Rapids North Carolina Sunday. He served over a year, most of it with the Physiological Board, earning commendation from his commanding officer. As advertising manager for Trench and Camp his efforts funded one of the country’s best soldier newspapers at Camp Sevier, where papers were issued free to soldiers. Norinsky will be missed by comrades and Greenville friends for his helpful spirit and sunny disposition.

White-Robinson Wedding Solemnized in Presbyterian Church
On Tuesday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church Miss Bertha White became the bride of Mr. Paul J. Robinson. There were no attendants and only immediate families and a few intimate friends attended. The bride wore a grey coat suit with pink roses and ferns. After a short honeymoon, the couple will reside in Roanoke Rapids with their friends and relatives.

Meat Producers Duty to Boost World Pork Exports
The U S Department of Agriculture and the Food Administration urge increased cattle and hog production to export seven times prewar pork levels. Beef shortages loom in Europe due to refrigeration limits, while freezers from America, Argentina, and Australia will meet demand. Hog numbers rose by 10 to 16 percent with heavier weights, and the fall 1018 and spring 1919 marketing drive could add at least 1.6 billion pounds of pork versus last year. Dressed hog products rose from 903 million pounds to 1.278 billion in the three months ended September 20, 1917.

Quilting Party Promises Romance for Local Teens at Aurelia Springs
Miss Sallie Liles hosted a quilting party on Wednesday January 8 where Miss Mary Towe and Private Pete Warren were figuratively tied together by the superstition that they will wed first. Guests enjoyed games music and refreshments. Also Mrs Chas Kelly hosted January 9 with gelatine cakes and candies. Corporal Flave Hamill from Camp Jackson visited the community while George Saulz plans telephone improvements and is staying with Mrs M C Crawley. High School opened January 6 with a flag raising and patriotic songs. A fire at 2:80 PM damaged the A SH B building but was extinguished by quick action from Jack Smith and students. Mrs Walter Harris ill with sciatica shows slight improvement. Mrs John Patterson cared for her daughter Beryl ill with influenza. Some students returned to Louisburg College for holidays.
