Sidewalks Approved for Roanoke Rapids Project

The city will build 10 miles of sidewalks in Roanoke Rapids with about $50,000 and 175 to 200 workers. State CWA approves the plan, led by County CWA Administrator J. B. Hall with the city board Mayor Jenkins and Kiwanis public affairs committee backing the effort. Details to follow next week.

Investigation by Herald clarifies how the CWA toilet project superintendent for Halifax County was chosen. State Board of Health officials reviewed county estimates with Dr. Mitchell, County Health Officer, and sought a qualified contractor or foreman to manage the large labor force, but none was named.

Art Exhibit Planned by Woman's Club Art Department

At a Monday meeting the Woman's Club Art Department formed plans and committees for an exhibit to be held January 23 from 8 to 6 at the Club Building. The event welcomes drawings etchings paintings or crayons by any community member for display.

Congressman John H. Kerr supports the CWA landing field for Roanoke Rapids and has written to R. B. Page in charge of that branch. An application for the project has been submitted to Mr Page, with the matter handled through Public Affairs.
