Mrs J D Shearin Dies After Illness Near Rosemary
Mrs J D Shearin died at her home near Rosemary Monday afternoon after a lengthy illness at Johns Hopkins Hospital Baltimore. She is survived by her husband and ten children. Funeral services were held by Rev Charles M Lance with burial at the family plot near New Hope Church. A fuller obituary will appear in next week's Herald.

Fire at the Paper Mill in Roanoke Rapids
A conveyor at the Halifax Paper Corporation chemical plant caught fire from a defective motor last Wednesday night. Water pressure was limited by freezing pipes, delaying firefighting despite quick volunteer response. Damages totaled about five thousand dollars, mostly to the conveyor and roof. operations expected to resume in a week or ten days. Fire pumps from Roanoke Mills and Roanoke Fibre Board aided efforts along with company employees and residents.
