The first white child born in the Roanoke Rapids Hospital in 1939 is a girl whose father works as a mining engineer in Finland. Her mother Mrs. Williams Swift Martin arrived two months earlier to stay with her sister Miss Anne Prewer. A cable from Finland reached Roanoke Rapids last night confirming the birth.

Boy Loses Finger in Farm Machinery Accident
William Glenn Hockaday a 10 year old near Littleton lost a finger yesterday at Roanoke Rapids Hospital after his hand was caught in a corn shredder on the Bat Crawley farm. He was injured last Wednesday while operating the shredder.
