Wildlife Club Meetings Set Across Halifax and Northampton
Wildlife clubs in Halifax and Northampton counties plan meetings to discuss proposed changes in Roanoke River rockfish regulations. Halifax club, eight o'clock at the Agricultural Building, will elect 1948 officers. Northampton club meets Monday night at the Jackson courthouse to consider shifting the commercial fishing line from Weldon to Williamston. An open hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday at eleven at Weldon High School gym. A Wildlife Resources Commission committee and a Department of Conservation and Development panel will participate.

Finding out Airport Cost Sound Idea Wilson Tells Local Civic Organization

Man Charged In Raleigh After Hit and Run
George W. Lane of Gaston, 48, was arrested after a hit and run that struck a police department car parked in front of the city building. Lane faced charges of hit and run driving and driving while intoxicated. A witness reported the incident to officers L J Nelson and T L Glasson, and Lane was arrested in Gaston at 10:45 p.m. The crash occurred about 1:30 a.m.

The yearly report of Associat ed Charities shows $95 individuals helped in cases accepted. Starting Jan 1, 1947 with $115.23 on hand, the local welfare organization received $5000 from the Community Chest and $28 from the Famine Relief Drive, totaling $8,643.23 for the year. Disbursements totaled $8,398.72 for food clothing medicine shoes fuel milk and services. Balance on hand for 1948 was $243.51. The breakdown shows 189 applications, 148 accepted, 17 rejected, 24 transferred to other agencies, 43 new cases, 146 old cases, 276 office interviews, and 98 home visits by the case worker.

Fire Causes $4000 Damage in Weldon Morning Incident
A hot water heater flared while Mrs. S. E. Dawson lit it at Seventh and Sycarome Streets in Weldon. The blaze burned her face and hair and damaged the back porch roof and interior, with total losses around $4000. L. Glasgow and Wick Draper, passing by, aided her until help arrived. Fire chief Lynn Medlin said the heater ignited about 6:40 a.m. and firefighters returned at 8:20 a.m. to continue cooling the scene.

Grain drop lowers prices on lard and flour locally
The grain market decline nationwide last week pushed local grocery prices down. Lard fell from about 37 cents a pound to 26 cents, then rose to 25 pounds per sack of flour dropping as much as 27 cents. Meat prices held steady.
