Higgins Co. Low Bidders For Roanoke Rapids Weldon Line

W B Higgins and Co of Charlotte were the lowest bidders to furnish material labor and equipment for a 12 inch raw water line from Roanoke Rapids to Weldon. Six contractors submitted sealed bids and the Sanitary Board opened them Wednesday afternoon. Contract likely to be let in a few days. The Roanoke Rapids Sanitary District plans include water and sewer work. An outfall line bid last November preceded an agreement with Weldon to supply raw water and dispose sewage above Weldon. Building the raw water line costs more than 50 000 saved versus the outfall line and is viewed as more satisfactory in the long run. Higgins and Co were low on both pipe classes.
