Smith Rites On Tuesday
Mrs. Nettie J. Smith, 60, died at Roanoke Rapids Hospital after a months long illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday December 26 at 4 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home conducted by Rev. B Marshall White Hurst and Rev. Gordon Price. Interment followed in Roanoke Rapids Cemetery. She is survived by husband Charlie B. Smith four daughters Mamie Rose Ruth Smith of Roanoke Rapids and Charlotte Daniel Betty Daniel of Pleasant Hill two sisters Cecil Pulley Selma Davis Roanoke Rapids and R L Myles Boykins Va two brothers Charlie Johnson Boykins Va Joe Johnson Roanoke Rapids and several grandchildren.

Private Edward Gray, reported missing in France on December 8, received a radio broadcast from Nazi Germany allowing his message to reach his wife at 221 Madison Street Roanoke Rapids. Mrs Gray learned of the news Saturday afternoon and has since received hundreds of letters from across the United States and authorities confirm the broadcast.
