Firemen answered a call to H. L. Bell's brick home on Belmon t Road about five o'clock. About 300 dollars in damage, mainly to furniture and walls, occurred with the blaze starting in a bedroom perhaps from a cigarette left on a mattress hours earlier. No one was home at the time.

J H Williams longtime Roanoke Rapids resident dies of a heart attack at home Thursday December 21.
