Scout officials honored with Silver Beaver and leadership posts

W Howard Pruden received Scouting's Silver Beaver for distinguished service at East Carolina Council in Wilson. He was named Scout Commissioner for the council and re elected national representative. Committee on Civil Protection organized in town

Mayor Kelly Jenkins led a Monday night meeting to form a Committee on Civil Protection with leaders named for Fire Protection Police Air Raid Warden Emergency Public Works and Emergency Utilities. A Volunteer Service and Public Information director will manage registration while about a hundred residents attended.

Local Soldier Missing After Pearl Harbor Attack

Private Doyle H. Dobbins from this city served in the Medical Division of the 19th Infantry at Schofield Barracks Honolulu. A 1940 high school graduate, he enlisted July 8 1940 and was sent to Hawaii November 19 1940. Chief Dobbins seeks word on his welfare after the December 7 attack.

Banks Close For Christmas Holidays

Local banks will be closed December 25 and 26 in observance of Christmas. Officials from Citizens Bank and Trust Company and the Roanoke Bank and Trust Company branches in Rosemary and Roanoke Rapids announced the holiday schedule.

Referendum on Roanoke Rapids bond issues set for Jan 27

The Roanoke Rapids city board schedules a special election for Tuesday January 27 1942 to approve or disapprove two bond proposals. The first seeks up to 16000 for right of way and damages from an underpass project on Seaboard Air Line tracks at Roanoke Avenue Roanoke Junction. The second asks approval of 12000 in bonds for the same city bond action. (Continued on Page 12 Sec A)
