A string of visitors and residents in Rosemary and nearby towns includes E Burke of Salisbury and J L Query of Portsmouth, with stops in Raleigh, Rocky Mount, Norfolk, and Richmond. Notables: Rev Francis H Craighill spoke on a nationwide church campaign, and Lucius Cullom and others took new posts or attended funerals and district society events.
In a light hearted court roundup, several citizens faced minor charges tied to early holiday revelry, with no serious injuries reported. Authorities reminded residents to temper festivities as the season approaches.
Several affrays and drunken behavior lead to fines and bonds. S A Clark and J B Upchurch paid ten dollars each plus costs for being drunk and disorderly. C W Johnson S F Frazy and D L Wood fined 25 dollars each for drunkenness and swearing on the highway. Frazy discharged on payment of costs after breaking arrest. E H Denham faced concealed weapons and drunk driving charges with bond set at 200 dollars. S H Miller fined ten dollars for drunkenness. Paul Squires and Alex Faulkner remanded to Halifax on 150 dollar bonds for an affray with a carving knife and beans in a store. Vaughan fined one dollar for driving without lights. Kid Rock and H G McCland fined for drunkenness. Ed Allsbrook and Charlie Thompson likewise. Bobby Newsome and Charlie Wallace cited for firing firecrackers. J H Browning fined for riding a bicycle on the sidewalk. J B Powell bound over to Halifax Superior Court for assault with deadly weapon and cursing.

The High School Library can purchase books at lower prices and will have staff available Friday this week and Monday and Tuesday next week from 10 to 12 to assist orders.
Mr. Charles Speight expresses sincere thanks to the community for kindnesses shown during his wife's illness. The remembrance of them will be held in fond memory.
December 11 to 19 will be observed as Book Week with daily themes and school library campaigns. Parents and Teachers Associations plan to stock libraries with books to broaden horizons and encourage reading among children. A book fair by Rosemary and Roanoke Rapids pupils is set for Friday evening, December 9, at 8 o'clock, with story hours for Wee Tots and Scout events announced.
All Saints Episcopal Church Roanoke Avenue lists Second Sunday in Advent events. Bible classes for men and women at 11, church school at 945, celebration of Holy Communion and sermon, night service with sermon at 7 30. The church proclaims a welcome to all.
An examination of 1373 students in a New York school found about 573 knew the commandments and around 400 had heard of them. The speaker warns that modern children lack knowledge of Bible rules and urges greater parental involvement and weekly religious education to curb crime, citing remarks by the Kings County District Attorney.
Mrs Annie F Speight aged dies at home in Rosemary after a two week illness with central pneumonia. She leaves five children and husband Charles F Speight, plus three sisters and two brothers. Funeral held at Baptist Church with Rev A G Carter and Rev W Riggs, burial at Cedarwood Cemetery.
The Tschaikowsky Quartet will perform in the School Auditorium next Thursday evening. As a piano quartet with violin viola cello and piano, the group offers varied programs including chamber works, symphonic movements, and well known overtures. The quartet emphasizes solo passages by individual members enhancing educational value for students.
Rev. Stanley White pastors the Presbyterian Church with Miss Lucy Crisp and Mr. J. H. Harrison as S S Supt. Sunday School meets weekly at 10:00 for one hour. Regular preaching Sunday at 11:00 AM and 7:30 PM. Junior EB at 3:00 PM. Christian Endeavor 6:45 PM. Dime savers for the church debt are asked to bring them on Sunday. Christian Endeavor Prayer meeting Wednesday features an immigrant program. Evening service opens with song and familiar hymns shown on a screen.
Rosemary Methodist Church announces Rev E N Harrison will serve as pastor with A E Stowe listed and Miss Sally Medlin as organist. Sunday School 10:00 AM, morning service 11:00, evening service 7:30, Wednesday prayer 7:30. New pastor present Sunday with Prof Milam. All members urged to attend.
Joseph Maurice of Rockingham and Maude E Summersell of Rosemary were married at Mr W Clark's Rosemary residence Sunday morning by Rev Lewis N Taylor. Mrs Maurice has worked as a trained nurse locally. Maurice is brother of Mrs Daniel P Allen of Rosemary and well known in Rockingham business circles. They departed noon for their new home in Rockingham.

Single admissions follow in order: Tschaikowsky Quartet, Kaufman Male Quartet, Loren Bates Trio, Elizabethan Players in The Taming of the Shrew, The Floyds Master Magicians in Music Magic and Mystery, The Harnest Gamble Concert Company, and Dr Williams A Parry a Humorous Lecturer.
A 1921 death notice recalls Sister Annie Speight who passed away on November 27, at nearly 36, after years in service to her Master. It prays blessings on her husband and children as they hope to meet her in paradise per Revelation 2 7.
Halifax County opened its November term with a large criminal and civil docket led by Judge Calvert. Three capital cases and numerous liquor law penalties marked the first days, with many defendants pleading nolo contendere or awaiting judgment while confined in jail or facing bonds.
Misses Inez and Laura Ligon spent Thanksgiving here in the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Shell. Mr. W. M. Greene of Lillington has accepted a position with W. G. Lynch. Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Faison left this week after visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Waller of Rocky Mount spent a few days here with relatives. Waller. Mr. W. A. Simpson spent the week end in Raleigh. Mrs. C. N. Wheeler is visiting relatives in Atlanta. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Taylor and family spent Sunday in Tarboro. Dr. Job Taylor spent two days in Charlotte. Miss Luna Lassiter spent the week end in Smithfield. Miss Julia Thompson left Friday for Greensboro to live with her sister. Christine Temple returned from Lake View S C due to her mother’s illness. Miss Sue Wright spent the week end in Oxford. Martha Bowers spent the week end in Littleton. Mrs. Pearl Lewis spent the week end in Petersburg with Dr. and Mrs. C. A. Dodd. Messrs. W. Saunders, Clifton Harper and Ivey Mahorn spent Thursday at Chapel Hill. Mr. E. B. Love spent several days in Norfolk. Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Faison left for Fayetteville to make their home. The Central Building Parent Teachers Association will meet in the Auditorium at 3 P. M. Monday December 5. Buy-a-Book campaign plans will be discussed. All invited to attend.
Local Girl Scouts conducted a notable initiation on Wednesday with two captains three lieutenants and fifty five new scouts. Mary Keyserling directed the rite as girls formed in a horseshoe shape and received certificates uniforms insignia hats and tenderfoot pins after reciting the Scout Promise and pledges.
