The Woman's Club changes its regular meeting to the second Monday in September to avoid Labor Day. Mrs. Alice Hux, 72, flew at a local airfield for her birthday. The Collinses, now in Washington DC, report Mr. Collins as junior drug clerk for Mayflower Pharmacy. Latter Raleigh tax ruling places 3 percent sales tax on articles sold from trucks wagons and carts. The Underwoods and Miss Keele traveled to Burlington for Mr. Underwood’s father’s death. Rev. Hugh Bradley plans return with morning services at the Presbyterian Church Friday. The final Norfolk beach excursion of the season is announced as successful by Seaboard officials.

Roanoke Rapids School Trustees Vote On Three Members

Roanoke Rapids Graded Schools will elect three trustees on Tuesday October 3rd. Incumbents T W Mullen J T Chase and E W Eubanks face re election prospects. Registration rules and dates are set with P A Reid registrar and George Lamp ley C C Shell as election judges.

Sam Marks To Open New Store Saturday

The Fair Incorporated will open its exclusive shoe store this Saturday at the former Traynham Grimmer Grocery site in the South end. Manager Sam Marks says the interior is redecorated to reflect current management ideas and only shoes will be sold. Details appear in the issue’s advertisement.

New Bank in Scotland Neck Opens Soon

Scotland Neck will gain a new Bank of Halifax branch opening next week. The town has lacked complete banking facilities since the bank holiday and the present bank is in liquidation, serving as a depository until the new institution begins operations.

Halifax County Fair Under New Management in October

The Halifax County Fair runs Monday October 16 through Saturday October 21 under new management. Sheesley Shows will headline as the midway attraction with fireworks and free acts in front of the grand stand each night. The discontinuation of a service is noted as ongoing.

First NRA mass meeting moved to next week plan

Plans for a mass meeting of Raleigh citizens to form a local NRA committee were delayed until next week due to lack of an available outside speaker. A. B. Blalock, Raleigh NRA district member, could not secure a speaker for tonight but will arrange one early next week. The program includes a band concert, a state speaker, and a comprehensive house to house campaign to enroll every citizen under the NRA. Dr N W Squire of London ordered to pay Mrs Phyllis Hancock 1250 for alleged neglect of cats.

Infant Son Dies of Mr and Mrs Joe Harrison Jr

Infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Harrison died Monday. Funeral services were held Tuesday conducted by Reverend J E Kirk with interment in Roanoke Rapids Cemetery.
