ESC Changes Sked At Two County Towns

City official Mrs. Shearin reported the Roanoke Rapids parking meters in operation since March have produced $5,850.58 through July. For five weeks in July the meters brought in $1,546.32. The city receives half of the returns while the meter company gets the other half.

Raleigh Man Held for Cashing Bad Checks
Raleigh business record reports W. B. Williams of Route Three Raleigh is jailed in Roanoke Rapids on $500 bond for cashing five bad checks ranging from two to ten dollars. Police Chief J. Davis said Williams was arrested after the incidents and will face a preliminary hearing Monday.

Convict Hines Escapes Warren Prison Camp
Convict Hines Jr., a 29 year old with a scar, escaped yesterday afternoon from Warren ton Prison Camp road gang. Police Chief Davis described him as dangerous and warned the public. Authorities in two counties searched for Hines, who was serving 15 months for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He may head toward Littleton Highway.

Claude McDaniel, guilty of carnal knowledge, was ordered to pay 24 dollars monthly for child support. William Trippe of Roanoke Rapids was found not guilty of driving while intoxicated. A charge against Leonard Bell for disposing of mortgaged property was not pressed. Hearings spanned Monday to Wednesday with several divorces scheduled for tomorrow.

Local Man Joins Mercy Flight From Kirtland Base
SSgt Otha Reynolds, son of Mrs Ieelan A Pierce of Roanoke Rapids, took part in a mercy flight from Kirtland Air Force Base Albuquerque New Mexico. Flying a C 47 Reynolds operated the plane carrying an iron lung to Carrie Tingley Hospital Hot Springs New Mexico to aid a polio patient unable to breathe.

Wilbur Brown Dies In Motorcycle Truck Collision
Wilbur Brown was fatally injured around 1 PM today when his motorcycle collided head on with a Thompson Coal Company truck on Roanoke Avenue near the railroad junction. He died about ten minutes after arriving at Roanoke Rapids Hospital. Brown, unmarried, had reportedly passed a line of autos before the crash. No police report was available, and Coroner Rufus Britton provided no information at 2:30 PM.

Former 101st Airborne troopers and glidermen will gather Sept 3-4 for the Airborne Division Association's third annual convention.
