More than 3,200 employees at Rosemary Manufacturing Patterson Mills Roanoke Mills No 2 and Village Shop receive eight percent raises for production and maintenance staff and three percent for service workers effective August 9 1948. Sgt Jenkins Funeral Rites Are Saturday
Mrs Clifton Riggan of this city has been notified by the War Department that the body of her brother Staff Sgt Robert O Brien Jenkins has arrived in the United States. Services will be held Saturday afternoon at 4 00 P M from Calvary Church near Littleton conducted by Rev H L Davis. Burial will be in the Jenkins family plot. He was killed November 11 1944 in Lorraine France while directing mortar fire as platoon sergeant. He attended Littleton High School and played on the L H S football team known as Peanut. Survivors include one brother Edward Jenkins of Littleton four sisters Mrs Archie C Burn of Norfolk Va Mrs Ernest South of Richmond Va Miss Mamie Jenkins Jersey City NJ and Mrs Clifton Riggan Roanoke Rapids one niece and four nephews. The body will rest at W Williams Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids until the service at Calvary at 4 00 P M Saturday.

Union Protest Filed Over Patterson Mills Election
Tobey F Mendes of the CIO Textile Workers Union says a formal protest was filed with the National Labor Relations Board over Patterson Mills last Friday elections. The protest cites conduct of the company and relies on section 209.61 of the postwar labor regulations. St Andrews Group Seeks Funds For Convention Delegates
The Junior Brotherhood of St Andrews aims to raise funds to send two members, Billy Fannye and A. W. Judge Parker Opens Halifax Court Monday
Halifax Superior Court's August term will open at the courthouse Monday with several divorces on the docket and a heavy criminal load. Resident Judge R Hunt Parker will preside with five preliminary criminal cases including breaking and entering and larceny, 12 drunken driving, six forgery cases, one deceiving stolen property case, and one assault with intent to kill.

Georgia Man Shot. Gaston Man Held in Roanoke Rapids
Gaston Earl Marshall of Macon is hospitalized with gunshot wounds after an incident near Camp's store last night. Werdell Norwood of Gaston is jailed in Northampton County on charges of shooting Marshall during a mobile pursuit. Marshall was to testify in the trial of Owen Luke Linton, who allegedly abducted Norwood's wife. The attacker reportedly fired at Marshall and others. Marshall’s chest and abdomen injuries were not deemed critical.

Six Helped In July By Local Charity Group
The Associated Charities report for July shows six of seven aid applications approved. Three cases resulted from unemployment including a 73 year old laid off worker whose wife is semi invalid. during unemployment the charity supplied food and cared for the wife while he was hospitalized. He later found new work in a different plant. Two cases were reopened and six old cases continued to be cared for. only one applicant, a desertion case, was rejected after finding a job during the investigation period.
