Black Farmer Walter Ward Killed Near Enfield
Walter Ward, a well known colored farmer, was struck and instantly killed near his Enfield home late Monday. Robert Bell, son-in-law of Ward, is held on the crime charge after being arrested following a window shooting. Coroner Rowe ordered an inquest. Bell jailed without bail ahead of Halifax Criminal Court opening August 15.

Death of 14 month old Essie Lee Pridgen
Essie Lee Pridgen daughter of Mr and Mrs C Pridgen died after a brief illness of bronchial pneumonia at home Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were led by Rev Williams from Enfield and she was buried in Cedarwood Cemetery Monday afternoon.

The residence of D L Traynham Jr on Roanoke Avenue was broken into this week after a period of vacancy. Entry was gained by breaking a window light and screen and lifting the window. The site was visited twice with a small boy possibly aiding, a chair moved to inspect the mantel, a dusty footprint found, linen cupboards checked, drawers scattered, faucets left running, and a light left on. Property missing amount unknown until the Traynhams return from western Virginia.
