Roanoke Rapids notes list residents visiting relatives in Hendersonville La Crosse Ebony and Seaboard and trips to Jackson Richmond Portsmouth and Scotland Neck. Several families plan moves and appointments with many stays in Roanoke Rapids and nearby towns.
Little Miss Myrtle Jordan celebrated her tenth birthday with a lawn party at her home on Saturday from seven to nine PM. Guests included Myrtle’s friends Pauline Cliffe of Raleigh, Nannie Wafford, Evelyn Wards, Mildred Hines, Claudine Evangeline Pendleton, Ide Wood, Margie Wood, and others. A decorated cake, ten candles, and gifts followed a dining room procession, then cake in the parlor before the party ended at 9 PM with well wishes for many happy days ahead.
The family of Mia Lucinda thanks their neighbors and friends for kindnesses shown during their recent move, and expresses gratitude to the Woodmen of the World for support.
Mrs Jesse Allen DeBerry wife of W L DeBerry died at her brother-in-law James E DeBerry’s home in Rosemary Sunday after a few hours illness. She leaves a husband and son, a number of relatives, and was 27. Funeral Monday at her mother Eldridge Allen’s Seaboard home, with Weldon Lodge Knights of Pythias pallbearers.
An encampment is planned for every Halifax County club girl at Panacea Springs from August 9 to 18. Tents will house living quarters while a ration list guides personal supplies. Girls split into squads for cooking and duties. meals served cafeteria style. Morning instruction covers basketry, millinery, dress design, and health lectures. afternoons and evenings feature swimming, games, singing, and recreation. The event will be chaperoned by instructors and patrons. a grand wind up picnic is planned for Saturday, August 18, with open invitation to community members to bring picnic lunches. Mr S F Patterson general manager of the Roanoke Mills Company and Rosemary Manufacturing Company announces that the mills will resume full operation on August 15, ending the idle rumor mill idle period. A two week employee vacation begins August 1 and will end with a full resumption of activities at the close of the break.

Mrs Lucinda Tippett Peace wife of Thomas A Peace died at Roanoke Rapids home on Washington Street Saturday afternoon at 1 30 She was a longtime town resident from Granville County and member of All Saints Episcopal Church The funeral was in the home Monday at 2 pm The Woodmen of the World detachment attended in uniform Her survivors include two daughters Mrs Robt J Haislip and Mrs Wm P Medlin five grandchildren her husband four brothers and a sister

Glover and daughter Nancy Rice visit relatives in Henderson. Mrs. Gordon Council visits Augusta GA. Dolly Grigzard returns from Boykins VA. Henry Bargwyn of Jackson visits town. Rosemary Manning enjoys days on the coast. James We moved to his old home yesterday. Mr and Mrs Eilis H Joyner visiting Greenville parents.
Mr Ellis Joyner of Rosemary and Miss Annie Belle Quinerly of Greenville were quietly married in Richmond Monday afternoon. They will reside in Rosemary where Joyner is with Citizens Bank and Trust Company.
The Presbyterian church lists staff including Rev Stanley White Miss Margaret McLeod and organist de Harries. Supt Sunday School at 10:00 AM with Morning Service at 11:00 AM and Evening Service at 8:00 PM led by Rev S Ry Oglesby of Oxford. Public invited to attend services nightly.
N C has consented to teach the Baraca Class of the Baptist Sunday school next Sunday morning. Dr Davis is an interesting and forceful teacher and a full attendance of the class is desired.
C F Carolina Lodge No 225 held its regular meeting on Monday night August the first. The event marked the start of a statewide attendance contest with a large turnout. Bro C W Riggs gave a lecture on the initiatory degree as captains of the Red Hustlers and True Blues urge members to beat Edgecombe Lodge No 50 in Tarboro for the Grand Lodge banner. Regular meeting next Monday at 8 o clock.
The Rosemary Roanoke Rapids baseball team swept a Saturday doubleheader on their Rosemary Diamond, defeating Petersburg All Stars as rain halted play after seven and a half innings. Cannon opened the hits, Holmes homered, and Shorty Gray added a circuit later. Keeton pitched Monday as Roanoke Rapids lost 12-6, Weldon fell 13-10 Wednesday, and Doyle Cannon belted a homer with the bases loaded. The Polaries visit tomorrow for a marquee clash. Garcia likely will start for Roanoke Rapids.

A junior, James McMurray Joyner, entertained about thirty friends on Monday afternoon from five to six thirty. The lively party featured enjoyable games and refreshments appealing to the juvenile taste, bringing added joy to the happy guests.
Mr W A Thorne of Butterwood was elected county treasurer by the Board of County Commissioners to succeed the late W K Harvey. Thorne is well known in Halifax County and is expected to serve effectively in the new role.
There will be no service in the Baptist Church Sunday evening. The entire congregation and membership is urged to attend the meeting being held at the Presbyterian Church by Rev. Rye Iglesby.
Revival meeting at Gum Chapel starts August 11 with Rev. R. L. West conducting services. Located about four miles from Rosemary on the New Hope road, the church extends a cordial invitation to the public.
