Romances Fall Short After Doubleheader With RC Colas
In Roanoke, the Romances split a Sunday doubleheader with RC Colas of Norfolk. Swink Lee pitched a no hit no run in game one, Ronnie Everette belted a homer, and Richard Swink shut down the visitors. Russ Debary lost the nightcap 2-1 as Roanoke’s defense faltered. Swanson of RC Colas, a Naval pitcher, impressed the crowd. The piece notes a tight local league race among Roanoke No. 2, Rosemary, Patterson, and Roanoke No. 1 with managers Hall of Patterson, Hux of Roanoke No. 2, Vaughn of No. 1 and Jenkins of Rosemary preparing for a late pennant drive and predicts a three straight wins state tournament in Raleigh. A birthday dinner for Lefty Everette’s daughter looms as the family heads to Norfolk for a quick doubleheader.
