Roanoke Mills Company held its annual yard and garden prize event with judges naming Mrs. J. W. Hudson as first prize garden winner and Mrs. R. C. Bray for the most attractive yard. Prizes totaled ten dollars for gardens with multiple runners up. yards likewise awarded top honors with notable improvement since last year. One Hundred More Leave for Camp and Red Cross Meeting
Fragments show a Friday notice of 100 colored men reporting to Camp Greene in Charlotte on Saturday August 3. Also listed are many names in Brinkleyville and Roanoke Rapids area. The Roanoke Mills community canner set new records with over five hundred cans in one day surpassing last year’s four hundred. Miss Fannie Marks and Miss Whitaker led the effort from Martinsville and Greensboro after extended plant hours. Mrs. Neal McRae and her son visited Littleton relatives, while Miss Myrtie Faison spent days away with kin.
