Dooley Found Guilty In Fayetteville Court

J Dooley told a crowd at the Labor Temple he was framed but was convicted in Recorder's Court. Five Local Defendants Held in Will Alston Death Case

Five Littleton Black residents Wilson Lee Willie Mae Arrington Annie Belle Arrington Haywood Sheagin Minnie West are jailed in Halifax County charged with a serious case in the death of 22 year old Will Alston whose body was found on railroad tracks near Darden Lumber Co Sunday night. Police say Arlston was struck by a train after a fist fight and witnesses describe the confrontation near the rails. The suspects faced Magistrate J R Kirkland and were held for the grand jury amid conflicting testimony.

Farmer Fatally Wounds Neighbor With Hoe On Road

John C. Alston, a well known farmer and saw mill operator near Littleton, is in critical condition after Frank Langston struck him with a hoe on a road near Langston's farm. Langston is jailed in Warrenton as the eye witness was his son. The dispute over a small debt led to the attack.

ABC Hours Change for Halifax County ABC Stores

Announcement from Wm. Alfred Thorne, chairman of the ABC board, states Halifax County stores will close at 6 P M every night and on Saturdays they will no longer stay open late. Last week they operated until 8 P M on Saturdays.

Roanoke Rapids Eyes Paved Jackson and Hamilton Streets

City officials seek a federal grant covering 45 percent of a street paving project for Jackson and Hamilton Streets with side streets. Property owners would fund 36 percent and the city 19 percent, with ten year payments estimated at 8.49 dollars yearly for concrete or 5.55 dollars for asphalt per 30 foot lot, including drainage and curb work. If owners pay upfront, approval could come quickly and work start within 60 days.
