Robert Squire a 26 year old Halifax Paper Company worker was shot to death near the W A Vincent store at Vulture James Robinson a night watchman at Mr Vincent is jailed charged with the shooting Robinson says Squire hit him with a rock at the door of his room and after a rock was thrown Squire stood outside calling him to come out Robinson fired the fatal shot in the throat and chest Squire ran a short distance before collapsing by the roadside

Keeter Captured After Fatal Halifax County Shooting
E L Keeter, who fatally shot Deputy Sheriff William A Pope at the J S Turner Lumber Company plant, was captured today near Halifax after police closed in with assistance from Sheriff Joe Riddick and Roanoke Rapids officers. Keeter, unarmed, claimed he did not know Pope and that Pope fired first. Jack Abernathy, a companion, is held as a material witness. Pope was conducting a capias when the shooting occurred.
