Fire on First Avenue Shack Well Ablaze

A Tuesday morning fire on First Avenue attacked a shack owned by John Nowasad. Firefighters arrived after a delayed alarm, used a chemical engine to control flames, and saved the structure as much as possible.

Manitoba Wheat Pool directs members shipping platform wheat to bill directly to the pool and retain the 1c to 34c service charge, avoiding commission firms. The pool will arrange inspections to secure the highest grade and the bill of lading should name Manitoba Wheat Pool Fort William Port Arthur and notify Manitoba Wheat Pool Winnipeg care of Wheat Pool Elevators Fort William Port Arthur.

Excelsior Lodge LCEA announces an Elocution Contest on Wednesday October 22 open to children ages 10 to 16 from rivers and surrounding schools. Entry fee is 25 cents and entries with name age and selection must be delivered to Mrs L Marsh by October 9. Contest selections come from the Grade 5 Reader. Two age groups 10 to 13 and 14 to 16. Prizes offered in both divisions. Further details to follow.
