History of Rivers air base and its multi service use
Rivers air base began as RCAF Station Rivers in May 1942 under BCATP, hosting No 1 Air Navigation School later No 1 CNS. It trained 11,406 navigators with army pilots, parachutists and instructors, housed signals and dispatch schools, and expanded to a tri service flying training unit. Postwar, it became CF B Rivers, hosting helicopter training, naval aviation pilots, and a fighter squadron before closure in 1971 and eventual civilian reuse. The site retains wartime hangars, supply buildings, and a remaining airfield used for crops and drift racing, with a 1990s film connection.
