Rivers Legion Ladies Auxiliary Meets in June
The Rivers Legion Ladies Auxiliary held its regular monthly meeting June 1 in the upper hall with 19 members attending. A donation was made to the provincial council for convention costs and flowers were planted at the cenotaph. They sponsor the Legion Athletic Camp Award for a Rivers Collegiate Institute student. The next meeting will be Tuesday Sept 8 after the summer recess and Labour Day. Mesdames Marlene Allen and Jean Young served lunch. Enjoy your summer and see you in September.

Rivers Legion Branch 75 Holds Busy June Meeting
The June 8 Rivers Legion meeting presided by Darryl Childerhose had 11 members. They approved two new memberships, discussed a June 27 golf tournament with a $5000 hole in one prize, and noted helpers for Memorial Day observances.
Memorial service honors fallen Canadians near D-Day in Rivers
In Rivers Branch 75 a weekend memorial observed Decoration Day with a Friday veterans banquet attended by about 60 people including 39 veterans from local communities. Saturday saw crosses placed at veteran graves in Rivers Cemetery. Sunday featured a 15 minute cenotaph service led by branch president Darryl Childerhose with readings and prayers. 35 attendees gathered in the park for music, reflections noted Holland's 70th anniversary, and the sacrifice of 7,600 Canadians with prayers for continued remembrance.

Special visit honours WWII veteran at Steinbach nursing home
Provencher MP Ted Falk stops at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach to honor John Phillips for his overseas service in a self propelled artillery unit and as a messenger. His wife Margaret aided the registration for the recognition as they previously farmed north of Hwy 25 between Oct 25/270 and Forrest for many years.
