Illinois Central Electrified Service Considered to Chicago Heights

The Illinois Central Railway may extend electrified service to Chicago Heights and Crete via the Chicago and Eastern Illinois line. Talks with C and E I officials follow chamber plans to take over the Kensington to Crete route to improve suburban transit. An upcoming meeting with railroad executives aims to push action soon.

The Dolton Board of Education approved a seven acre tract at 146th and LaSalle Riverdale bordering Ivanhoe for a new 4 room early grades school. District 148 serves Indiana avenue to Calumet River and Sibley area. Owner is Mrs. Maria Lukens Riverdale. Attorney A 5 Diekman and John A Verhoven represented the seller. Death of Herman Seelbinder at 45

Herman Seelbinder died August 31 at age 45 2 months and 7 days after living with his sister Mrs. R Nimtz at 43 East 188th Street. Funeral services were held Wednesday with interment at Concordia Cemetery. He leaves a brother Emil and two sisters Mrs. Richard Nimtz and Mrs. Wm Martens along with other relatives and friends.

Dalton Park Board approves giant whirlaround contract

The Dalton Park Board closed a contract for a Giant Whirlaround to be installed in the park. It will provide healthy recreation for 50 to 60 children at once and is set to operate next week.

Flower Show Prizes Awarded by Civic Club

The Ivanhoe Civic Club and Ivanhoe Garden Club awarded prizes last Thursday for the Best Premises and Best Flower Garden. Elsie Langford won ten dollars for Best Premises, with Geo H Geilhufe second for five dollars, while Harry L Butler won ten dollars for Best Flower Garden and Wm Graves second for five dollars. Judges from the Chicago Tribune praised the results and honorable mentions were given to Putnam and Griffin. A prize photo appears on page 2.

New Bridge Jurisdiction Settled Across Calumet River

After years of dispute among State County and City of Chicago the Halsted Little Calumet River crossing project is resolved. The state will construct the bridge at a cost near 750000 dollars while relieving local government from direct expenses. The city will de annex a small northern plot to the township and the state will oversee building and maintenance of a bridge expected to near one million dollars in total cost.

Mayor in Jail Over Contested Phoenix Assessments

The Harvey Tribune reports Mayor Joseph Smuczayski of Phoenix is jailed for contempt after refusing to sign a supplemental assessment ordinance to cover debts from public improvements.
