Van Sweringens gain control of C and E I railroad

Controlling interest in the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad passes to the Van Sweringens via exercise of an option on a majority stock in the hands of the late Thomas Fortune Ryan. Purchase price undisclosed. The line runs Chicago to St. Louis and will link to their Missouri Pacific system.

Birthday surprises for Mrs Harry Drendel and Mrs Geo Propper were held at the A O U W hall in Dolton. Marie Peters underwent appendicitis surgery at Ingalls Memorial Hospital and is recovering. Mrs Wm J Albrecht marked her 65th birthday with family gathered. Riverdale Fire Dept. responded to two fires on Oct 26 and Oct 29 with no major damage. Ed Dillner returned from a south trip, enjoying New Orleans.
