Grandma Mary Daley of Dalton Turns 104 Next Sunday

The Dalton resident Mary Daley celebrates her 104th birthday next Sunday October 26. She remains capable of light chores and keeps a sharp memory for names, though her eyesight has declined and she doubts city photographers capture her true age. The Pointer plans to publish a portrait in Sunday papers to show her looking well.

Higgens Obeldobel Couple Wed in Chicago nuptials

Miss Dorothy Higgens of Chicago and Mr George Obeldobel of Riverdale were married October 19 in Chicago with Rev Ryan officiating. Bridesmaid Miss Helen Dodson and best man Mr Ray Leis attended. The couple will honeymoon in California and reside at 6W 187th Street reaching home about November 8.

Turner Hall to be moved into modern South Side recreation center

Turner Hall will be relocated to a 50 by 250 foot plot at 115th Street and Indiana Avenue to become a fully modern recreational center on the South Side. The 1888 building will be renovated with terra cotta facing, a 70 by 48 foot gym on the main floor, a lounging basement, dining room, kitchens, and shower facilities for members, plus a top floor hall for Turner meetings and a manager’s flat. Groundbreaking is slated for the next month on the site.

The South Side Boosters Club of the National Union Assurance Society will stage a boxing tournament on Wednesday evening, October 29, at St. Rita's auditorium on 63rd street and Washtenaw avenue. Calumet Taxes Case Drives 4000 Objectors to Hearings

W F Struckmann urged Calumet taxpayers to press for hearings before the Board of Review contending that if the court sustains mandamus or tax objections the supreme court will set a lasting precedent that every taxpayer must be heard before tax judgments are finalized. He praised the Calumet group for compiling thousands of bills and protests and warned of possible appeals by board or county lawyers.

Boy Hit By Auto On Way To School

Eddie Stern son of Mr and Mrs John Stern of 18309 Calumet avenue was struck by a car while alighting from a street car at 186th street Wednesday morning about 8 30. He was taken home with fractures to arm and leg.

University of Illinois Expected to Surpass 15000 Enrollment

University officials announced total net enrollment of resident students will exceed 15000 for the year, marking the largest registration in history. Fall term registration rose by 305 from the same period last year, while 1929-80 totals stood at 14594 with another increase likely once spring figures are reported.

State Auto License Forms Ready Nov 1

State auto license forms for 1931 will be available November 1 as announced by Secretary of State William J Stratton. The secretary urges careful reading of blanks to reduce returns from improperly executed applications or missing fees based on horsepower for cars and weight for trucks.
