District 148 school board proposes a large Highlawn addition costing 50000 and a new Ivanhoe primary building costing 50000 with bonds sold at 4 percent. Twelve bids submitted. Chicago firm awarded the deal. Tax impact claimed to be neutral as bonds replace maturing bonds over 20 years.
The Dalton resident Mary Daley celebrates her 104th birthday next Sunday October 26. She remains capable of light chores and keeps a sharp memory for names, though her eyesight has declined and she doubts city photographers capture her true age. The Pointer plans to publish a portrait in Sunday papers to show her looking well.
Miss Dorothy Higgens of Chicago and Mr George Obeldobel of Riverdale were married October 19 in Chicago with Rev Ryan officiating. Bridesmaid Miss Helen Dodson and best man Mr Ray Leis attended. The couple will honeymoon in California and reside at 6W 187th Street reaching home about November 8.

Herman Horn receives notice that Wan Run captured the Dr McLeod silver cup in the race from South Chicago to Tourist Park and return held Sunday. trophy praised. Horn expressed happiness. Other notes include births in local families and Thornton Township high school beating Michigan City 10 to 0 on Harvey grounds.
The next regular meeting of Paul Gall Post is set for Tuesday evening October 28 at the Dug Out. New officers will be introduced and 1931 dues payable to Karl Meginnis at Dolton IL or the Dolton post office. Members urged to support ex service men and attendance is needed.
Turner Hall will be relocated to a 50 by 250 foot plot at 115th Street and Indiana Avenue to become a fully modern recreational center on the South Side. The 1888 building will be renovated with terra cotta facing, a 70 by 48 foot gym on the main floor, a lounging basement, dining room, kitchens, and shower facilities for members, plus a top floor hall for Turner meetings and a manager’s flat. Groundbreaking is slated for the next month on the site.
The Southern Cook County Chamber of Commerce, recently chartered by the state, met at Olympia Fields Clubhouse to discuss a year long program covering transport sanitation pollution and highways. A Blue Island dinner on November 21 will launch activities with speakers of statewide repute and a membership drive led by Daniel J Brumley.
Due to unemployment and hard times, Dolton residents are advised to secure homes and vehicles, keep night lights on, report absences, and notify police of suspicions. Call Dolton Village Hall or operators for emergency police location and response.
The South Side Boosters Club of the National Union Assurance Society will stage a boxing tournament on Wednesday evening, October 29, at St. Rita's auditorium on 63rd street and Washtenaw avenue. Local boxers of varied classes will participate, with bouts staged under Illinois Boxing Commission permission. The organizing committee includes J. W. Hoover, J. W. Mathieson, H. C. Smale, F. P. Brodie, J. Zaruba, W. Erhardt, and J. L. Marek.
Mr and Mrs J M Deam travel to Pittsburgh California to visit their son Cale and family and meet granddaughter Marian aged 15 months. Gale Deam is general manager of Johns Manville plant in Pittsburgh. Other notes include local fire department changes, riverfront alley cleanups, and a Hunting trip by Walter Mout with family updates on residents and a hospital recovery for Simon Schoon.
St Mary’s school plans a Halloween Social on Thursday October 30 with bingo and games. The W T C U hosts its annual Halloween party at Mrs E Peacock’s home 801 136th place Riverdale from 2 to 5 pm on October 30. St Paul’s Lutheran Ladies choir dances on Saturday at 8:30 pm in the parish hall. Sandridge M E Ladies Aid bazaar at the church basement Friday November 7 at 2 pm.
W F Struckmann urged Calumet taxpayers to press for hearings before the Board of Review contending that if the court sustains mandamus or tax objections the supreme court will set a lasting precedent that every taxpayer must be heard before tax judgments are finalized. He praised the Calumet group for compiling thousands of bills and protests and warned of possible appeals by board or county lawyers.
Eddie Stern son of Mr and Mrs John Stern of 18309 Calumet avenue was struck by a car while alighting from a street car at 186th street Wednesday morning about 8 30. He was taken home with fractures to arm and leg.
University officials announced total net enrollment of resident students will exceed 15000 for the year, marking the largest registration in history. Fall term registration rose by 305 from the same period last year, while 1929-80 totals stood at 14594 with another increase likely once spring figures are reported.
State auto license forms for 1931 will be available November 1 as announced by Secretary of State William J Stratton. The secretary urges careful reading of blanks to reduce returns from improperly executed applications or missing fees based on horsepower for cars and weight for trucks. Notaries public garage owners and automobile clubs are asked to help by checking items before submission to prevent undeliverable license plates due to wrong addresses.
